About Me My wife and my dog think I'm awesome.

Development

I have been programming in one language or another since I was eight. That was a long, long time ago, so I’ve been doing it for a while.

I love programming for the web. It’s art, it’s tech, it’s the great equalizer when it comes to information.

Photography

I’ve always felt the call to be creative.  I have tried my hand at a variety of creative endeavors (drawing, painting, ceramics), but it wasn’t until I picked up my first SLR camera in 2006 that I knew where to put my focus.

I believe there is beauty in all things.  The goal of my photography is to coax it from the subject and bring that beauty to the viewer.

Interested in learning more about my incredibly exciting life?

I’m a transplant to Raleigh, NC. That’s been exciting. Quite a change from life back in Oklahoma City.  It’s a lot less flat out here.  You might have noticed.

Anyway, I dig Raleigh and plan on sticking around.

Things I’m Passionate About (in no particular order):

  • Web Standards and Accessibility. I’ve had the pleasure of serving as the Chancellor’s representative to the Oklahoma Governor’s task force on accessibility. This task force put together legislation (HB 2197) and standards requiring that all state agencies meet and exceed the Federal Section 508 Standards for accessibility for all electronic and information technology.
  • My wonderful wife.
  • Photography and Art.
  • Music in all it’s various forms. Currently on my iPod I have metal, polka, indie, some rap, French pop, a few jigs and reels, ad nauseum.. Country music is the exception to this rule. I like the old stuff. You know.. Waylon Willie and the boys.. But this new country music does absolutely nothing for me. Most of it seems to lack the passion.
  • Roller Derby!!!   I love photographing roller derby.   The Carolina Rollergirls are the most awesome league to work for.

Interesting (or not) Tidbits:

  • Played guitar/mandolin in several bands through the years.
  • I have a photo on display as part of the permanent collection at the Oklahoma Heritage Museum.
  • My grandfather was Boxcar Willie’s manager.
  • I’ve climbed a Mayan pyramid at Chitzen Itza.
  • I shot a man in Reno.. Just to watch him die. Ok.. So stolen from a Johnny Cash song. I’m a bit too much of a pacifist and a good guy to commit anything quite that heinous.
  • A site I built won a W3 Award.
  • A bunch of sites I’ve built have won Addys.
  • I’ve worked backstage with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  I got to carry Josh Klinghoffer’s Jaguar (guitar) to the stage.
  • I got to hang out backstage with the Pixies.
  • I flew a plane once.  Landed it safely and everything, on the first try even.
